Samuel Doane and Henry Burnett of General Electric patented a "tipless" lamp in 1894. About twelve years later GE began marketing incandescent lamps under the Meridian name. Meridian lamps were globe shaped and usually bowl frosted. The manufacturing process was quite difficult and by about 1910 Meridian lamps were dropped in favor more efficient tungsten filament lamps19. This particular lamp has an early skirted Edison base with black glass and porcelain insulation with 1907 patent dates. |
